The trees pictured above were growing in the New Forest, Southampton. We received a phone call from the homeowner explaining the trees were looking brown and sparse in places. On arrival our expert arborist examined the trees and determined the obvious cankers and branch girdling were consistent with a disease called “Seiridium cardinal”. Seiridium cardinal is a micro-fungus that causes a canker disease on cypress and other related conifers. The first evidence of the disease is a browning or reddening of the live bark around the point of entry of the pathogen. Subsequently, lentiform or elongated cankers develop that may girdle branches or stems, causing dieback.
The disease spreads by a slime exudation carried to other branches by wind, rain, insects, birds etc.
The trees were protected and after consultation with the local planning authority it was agreed the trees should unfortunately be removed on the ground os health and safety.
BEFORE PICTURE – You can see the size and scale of the task at hand, much of the tree canopy has to be lowered to ground level using a rope system and the customer would like to keep all of the wood.
AFTER PICTURE - Job complete and site left clean and tidy after removal of 4 large trees!!
